With the general elections in the country just three months away, former chief minister and Shiromani Akali Dal’s chief patron Parkash Singh Badal on Monday claimed that during 80 years of his long political stint he learnt that Congress party was the biggest enemy of Punjab as well as that of the Sikhs. While comparing the Congress party and its leaders with the Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s rule, Badal said: “While Congress attacked Sikh shrines and killed Sikhs across the country, Modi Sahib possesses a very positive approach towards the state and Sikhs.” “You can see that on the one hand, the Congress party was trying to grab control of our Gurdhams by instigating the Sikhs against one another and the other hand, the Modi Sahib had been fulfilling numerous demands of the community, including the approval to Kartarpur Sahib Corridor,” said Badal, while addressing the SAD-BJP’s joint conference here on the occasion of Maghi Mela.
With polls in mind, Badal senior also counted upon various achievements of his government in the past. Badal named a number of historical monuments, which were constructed during Akali government, led by him.

He also reminded the gathering of his decision about waiving off the tubewell bills with also allowing all to install the same to irrigate the land.
Speaking further, Badal claimed that waiving off the tubewell bills, his government kept on bearing Rs 6,000 crore as power expenses just to ensure that farmers of the state can be helped. He also reminded all about the Atta Dal and Shagun schemes launched by his government to help the needy people. Meanwhile, lashing out at Punjab CM Captain Amarinder Singh, Badal said: “He befooled you all by promising jobs and various other freebies but nothing could reach you, I know. But the fault is also yours as you all get swayed with the Congress despite being aware of the fact this anti-Sikh party was known for making false promises.” He also touched the topic of Sutlej-Yamuna Link (SYL) canal, stating that the Akali-BJP government, after realizing it anti-father and anti-Punjab, took a decision and returned the acquired land to the owners, so that it could never disturb them in future.
