Indore: Taking cognisance on the complaint of a city model, the district court on Monday registered a case of dowry harassment against her husband, who is a businessman in Bhopal. The victim alleged that her husband and her family members had beaten her and she had also received cigarette butt burns from them while they harassed her for dowry of Rs 20 lakh.
The court has also served notices to the family members of the accused to appear before it on February 14. According to advocate Krishna Kumar Kunhare, the model has lodged a complaint against her husband Shobhit Kumar, resident of Bhopal. “The victim is a professional model and had also won Miss Indore, Miss Jabalpur and Miss Goa contests. She had met Shobhit in February 2017 and after falling in love, they both married in September 2017 in a Mumbai court,” Kunhare said.
The advocate added that the accused didn’t inform his family members about his marriage and kept the victim in a flat in Indore. “When the victim forced Shobhit to meet his parents, the accused started harassing her. Later, he informed his family members who denied to accept the girl and also started harassing her,” Kunhare said.
The victim also alleged that the accused mother had asked her to bring Rs 20 lakh as dowry and beaten her on refusing to arrange for the same. “The victim had worked in various advertisements and fashion shows as well. She contacted me after being frustrated by the harassment of her husband and family members after which we knocked court’s door,” the advocate added.
