BHOPAL: Chief minister Kamal Nath said the government is working on the issue of the loans taken by the farmers from sahukar , the private money lenders active in rural area, and how these loans can also be waved.

Addressing a press conference for launching the "Jai Kisan rin maafi yojana", Nath said this scheme is an "investment" in the economy of Madhya Pradesh to strengthen the farmers.

About 55 lakh farmers in Madhya Pradesh would be benefitted by the scheme which would require about Rs 50 crore, he said.

In the run up to elections, Congress president Rahul Gandhi had announced the 'k arz mafi'. He had said that if the Congress comes to power, loans upto Rs 2 lakh would be waved off.

Within one hour after taking the loan, Kamal Nath had signed the "government file related to the loan waiving", Congress said.

The issue of money lender was raised by the BSP president Mayawati. Nath told journalists on Tuesday that he had talked to Mayawati on the issue.

"We are already working on this issue on how to help such farmers . We also have to end the private money lenders," he said.

On Tuesday, the process of filling up of application forms for loan waiving scheme started. Before the press conference started, Kamal Nath himself got the forms of 14 farmers filled to launch the scheme .

Later talking to the media, the chief minister said that ,"people may talk about the importance of GDP but at the end of the day, it is agriculture based economy of Madhya Pradesh. The grocer in rural area the transporter or any other trade- everything revolves around the farmers’ economy."

Nath said that, "there are other issues also related to the farmers. Now there children of farmers who have studied but they do not want to stay back in agriculture fields. We have to create jobs for them. And I am already doing this “.

Kamal Nath said that he had talked to the businessmen who had promised investment in Madhya Pradesh. "I will soon tell the people about investments and jobs also. Investment comes with confidence in the government."

He also criticized the BJP for unnecessarily highlighting the issue of "budgetary provisions for loan waiving." Without mentioning the name of former chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan who had raised the issue, Nath said, "those who talk about the budget actually do not understand it."
