AHMEDABAD: The officials of Research Designs and Standards Organisation (RDSO) under the Ministry of Railways of India, will be arriving in Gujarat on February 18 and the first trial run of the metro train on the tracks will be carried out in presence of RDSO. Earlier, the train run was to be carried out by January 15.
The officials of RDSO will be campaigning in Ahmedabad before they certify that the train is fit for commercial run. The Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation (GMRC) Limited officials said that the train was likely to make its first run for the passengers in the early March.
However, the senior officials from GMRC said that the train will make its run for the passengers before the Lok Sabha elections.
The first train set of Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation (GMRC), which arrived on 1 January 2019, is undergoing various checks and trials. The second train set is expected to arrive in Ahmedabad by February 7 after which tests and trials will be conducted on that as well.
After the RDSO will carry out statutory trials, it will be followed by the Commissioner of Railway Safety (CMRS) inspection and trial of both the train sets.
Once these exercises are completed and certified, GMRC is planning to start regular run on Apparel Park to Vastral route by first week of March.
A senior officer said the GMRC had first decided to carry out the trial run by January 15 and then get it inspected by RDSO and CMRS after which the train was to make the commercial run. However, the official said that since the government wanted to get the Metro train flagged off by the Prime Minister, they decided the run would be conducted only after safety certificates are received.
The officer further said that the ruling BJP also wanted to be kept away from any negative publicity, which they would have invited if the PM inaugurated the Metro train without any safety certification.
