LUCKNOW: Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav’s wife, Dimple Yadav, may contest the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections from home turf Kannauj, sources in the party disclosed on Tuesday.
Highly-placed sources in the party revealed to TOI that Akhilesh Yadav may opt for another safe constituency, making the election interesting with both husband and wife simultaneously in the fray.
Initially, the party decided not to field Dimple and bench her in 2019 and allow Akhilesh to contest from her Kannauj seat, from where she was Lok Sabha member since 2012.
In the wake of a formidable SP-BSP alliance, the leadership is confident of its success rate and is re-strategising the plan.
Meanwhile, Dimple celebrated her birthday with select family friends and relatives, which was a low-key affair.
Akhilesh also avoided a photo-op with Dimple and simply tweeted a picture with her on the banks of the Gomti.
Dimple is a second-time MP from Kannauj and in the lower house since 2012 when Akhilesh vacated the seat to become chief minister.
Speaking to the TOI, Akhilesh Yadav disclosed the option of returning to parliament from a new constituency, which had not been finalised yet.
On BJP’s charge of dynasty culture, Akhilesh said the saffron party should end nepotism among cadre and leaders. BJP is a party which had highest number of political dynasties, he alleged.
