Homeowner Amy McCann posted the revealing video to her Facebook account after she reviewed it to find out what had happened to the disappearing things.
The video's accompanying message said: 'We are seeking to identify and learn the whereabouts of this fox following the theft of items from our house in Watsonia.
'Between 1.00am and 1:30am on Tuesday 15 January, the fox entered our property and stole two Rio Olympic Games Havaianas thongs, and also took off with a baseball.
'We have released CCTV images in a hope someone may be able to assist us. The fox is believed to be 30cm tall and tan in colour,' the caption stated.
Following the post, many Facebook users were quick to take to social media to share their comments about the crafty critter.
'Hahahahaha what a cheeky lil Fox. I hope he uses the thongs and baseball well,' one person wrote.
'Maybe it's off to the beach?' another person said.
A third person added: 'I hope it comes back tonight to steal your sunscreen.'
Ms McCann told the Herald Sun she first thought the thongs had been taken by a shoe thief, but after checking the CCTV she discovered the true culprit.

'A lot of shoes were stolen (in the area) last year, which is why we got CCTV put in, so we thought the shoe thief was back at first but then we saw the footage,' Ms McCann said.
She said while the fox's actions were funny, she still wants her rare thongs back.
'They were a pair of limited edition Rio Olympics thongs I purchased from the Olympic Village in 2016.
'It's crazy - I'd never think for a moment that a fox would steal a thong and then to come back for the complete pair,' she said.
