DD to offer its satellite network to private channels
Swati Mathur | TNN | Jan 16, 2019, 04:09 ISTNEW DELHI: Prasar Bharati Board on Tuesday approved a new policy framework for the use of the public broadcaster's satellite network, DD Free Dish.
Slots on DD Free Dish will be e-auctioned to private news, sports and entertainment channels starting in February, and channels will be on-boarded based on the results of the auctions from March. The reserve price for Hindi and English news channels have been fixed at Rs 7 crore, while the reserve price for general entertainment channels is Rs 15 crore.
Prasar Bharati CEO Shashi Shekhar Vempati said the key highlights of the revised policy are that auctions will be based on differential prices based on five categories of content and language of channels, and auctions will be held annually for vacant, unreserved slots. "A key consideration of the new policy was to increase the diversity of content on DD Free Dish and to expand its reach especially in non-Hindi speaking states," Vempati said.
