Netflix has unveiled a bleak new trailer for Black Earth Rising, the limited series which first debuted on BBC Two in 2018 but is getting an international bow on the streaming service.
The eight-episode series centers on a woman named Kate Ashby (Chewing Gum creator and Black Mirror alum Michaela Coel), who remembers very little of her childhood before she was rescued from Rwandan genocide by an international human rights attorney named Eve (Harriet Walter). The only things she knows for certain is that she bears the physical and emotional scars of torment.
As the trailer shows, Kate will begin working alongside her mother and a barrister named Michael Ennis (John Goodman), as a case involving the prosecution of a militia leader who stands accused of crimes against humanity gives her an opportunity to pursue the harrowing details of her own past, though it won't be an easy road to discovery.
The show was written and directed by Hugo Blick of The Honourable Woman acclaim and will premiere on Netflix on Friday, Jan. 25.
