Boat and trailer found ablaze after theft from Gold Coast house fire

Detectives believe a boat and trailer found ablaze are the same ones stolen from a Gold Coast home just before it went up in flames and "this is for f---ing my wife" was spray painted on the outside.

The boat and trailer were found alight on Henri Robert Drive in the Gold Coast suburb of Clagiraba about 6.30pm on Monday and police described the fire as "suspicious".

A home on Belah Street in Ashmore, 21 kilometres east of the trailer and boat fire, went up in flames about 8am on Monday.

Police said someone got into the homeowner's ute, reversed it into the side of the residence and set the vehicle alight.

The flames quickly spread to the house and inflicted significant damage.

The 46-year-old male resident was not home at the time.

The tinnie on a boat trailer with Queensland registration BV4 987 went missing from the home close to the time of the fire.

Police have refused to comment on the graffiti.

However, investigators have urged anyone driving in Ashmore between 7am and 8am on Monday who may have dashcam vision showing the boat to come forward.

Investigations were continuing.
