Kanaka Durga, one of the two women who entered Sabarimala Temple on January 1 triggering violent protests across the State by Sangh Parivar activists, was attacked by her mother-in-law when she reached home at Perinthalmanna on Tuesday morning.
Ms. Durga alleged that she was hit on her head with a wooden reaper as she stepped into her house for the first time after her Sabarimala entry. A few policemen who were on duty in front of her house rushed her to the Government Taluk Hospital, Perinthalmanna. Sub-Inspector P.S. Manjitlal said a case was registered against Ms. Durga’s mother-in-law. He said the injury was not serious.
Alleging that Ms. Durga injured her by pushing her violently, the mother-in-law too has sought medical treatment. Ms. Durga, a government employee, reached her house apparently with the intention of rejoining duty on Tuesday. Her mother-in-law reportedly refused her entry into the house, leading to a verbal duel between them. Police said the mother-in-law hit her on the head with the reaper during the altercation.
Ms. Durga’s family was against her entering Sabarimala. She had stayed away from her house for several weeks because of the family’s opposition to her activism.
