Security forces at India Gate went into a tizzy after a woman sneaked into a high-security area during Republic Day rehearsals and shouted anti-India slogans in the small hours of Sunday.
However, security personnel were able to prevent the woman from entering Amar Jawan Jyoti. She was taken to Parliament Street police station. Medical examination revealed that she is mentally challenged, the police said.
The police said she pushed soldiers and created a ruckus by shouting anti-India slogans. DCP (New Delhi) Madhur Verma said the woman has been identified as a resident of Nizamabad in Telangana. She allegedly left home two days ago to visit a relative in Mumbai but got confused on the way and reached New Delhi instead, the police said.
“She was taken for medical examination and then sent to a women’s shelter home. We have contacted the police in Nizamabad to inform her relatives. A missing complaint was lodged two days ago in Nizamabad after she left home for Mumbai,” said Mr. Verma.
After medical examination, the doctors told the police that the woman was mentally challenged. Other security agencies too verified her details before she was sent to a shelter home, the police added.
“There was nothing suspicious about the woman and there is no Pakistan connection. She is an Indian. Her husband’s details are unavailable as they got divorced 12 years ago. No case has been registered,” Mr. Verma said.
