To be felicitated on Jan. 26, Aug. 15

The Congress government in Rajasthan has decided to felicitate the individuals and institutions which adopt stray cows from the cow shelter homes and elsewhere, on Independence Day and Republic Day. The orders to this effect were issued by the Directorate of Gopalan recently.

In a communique sent to all District Collectors, the Directorate of Gopalan has issued directions for honouring the individuals, donors, institutions, non-governmental organisations and social workers who adopt stray cows and make a contribution to their conservation.

The interested persons can submit their proposals to the District Collectors concerned, who will verify the claim and felicitate them with a certificate at the official functions on January 26 or August 15.

According to the orders, a cow being looked after at a cow shelter can be adopted on the payment of the specified amount and can be visited there any time. The adopted cows will be tagged by the officials of the Animal Husbandry Department. A person can also keep the adopted stray cows at his or her house.

‘Motivate public’

The communique has also asked the Collectors to highlight cow protection at the meetings held for public welfare and spread awareness about the issue, besides motivating the public, charitable trusts, philanthropists, administrative officers and social workers to adopt stray cows.

The Directorate of Gauseva was established in the State in March 2013 during the then Congress regime and it started functioning in July 2013. After the change of government, the ruling BJP created a separate Gopalan Department in March 2014 and changed the name of the Directorate of Gauseva to the Directorate of Gopalan in December 2014.
