BHOPAL: With the change of government all departments have issued orders for surprise checking of their field staff. Inspections are being conducted at schools and colleges to improve delivery. School education department’s bid in this direction is different and innovative. While most of the officials inspecting colleges are focussing on presence of teachers and students, school education department has directed the officials to inspect the exercise books of students. District education officer, district project coordinator and other officials attached in their office have been told to carry out surprise visits to schools in their areas, said commissioner, Irene Cynthia.
“Specific instructions have been given to the inspecting team to inspect the exercise books of the students and to see if they are being checked regularly,” said an official of the department. Checking exercise books of the students will serve a two prong strategy for the student. One- if the teachers are coming regularly and teaching in the classes regularly. Second- if students are really grasping what the teachers’ part with, said the official. Moreover, inspecting the exercise books of the students will reveal how well they have been learning and if the teachers have been paying attention on each and every student or not. The formula is working, teachers are not only regular in their schools but also are taking classes regularly, confirmed the official. Inspecting authorities have been asked to click photographs of the exercise books and share it in official whatsapp groups, if lapses are found. Teachers that are found faltering in checking the exercise books will be punished and sent notice. Clarification should also be sought from administrative heads of the schools and monitoring officials if lapses are serious in nature. Instructions have also been given from the top level that if officials are found lax in inspection, action will be taken against them.
