PUNE: Three members of a carjacking gang were arrested on Monday by Pune rural police

Police recovered a compact sedan car which the gang had robbed from Nashik district recently.

The kingpin of the gang Vishal Dattatreya Tandale (22) of Manchar has 33 cases of robberies, carjacking and burglaries registered against him in Pune, Nashik, Ahmednagar, Beed and Amaravati districts.

On Saturday around 10.30pm, Rinku Prajapati (19) of Medankarwadi in Chakan and his friend Krishna Sharma were travelling in the SUV on Talegaon-Chakan Road. When they reached Kharabwadi, a Maruti Swift Dzire car blocked their way. Five men from the car had dragged the duo out of the SUV at sharp weapon points and drove away from the spots in two vehicles along with the duo’s Rs 6,000 and two cellphones. “Prajapati had immediately alerted the Chakan police and also informed that the vehicles headed towards Ambethan,” said Sanjay Nilpatrewar, sub-inspector of the Chakan police.

Nilepatrewar said that the Chakan police had blocked the road at Savardari village. “Seeing the police vehicles, the suspects had left the car and started running away. “We nabbed Tandale along with his accomplices Ganesh Wable (18) and Arif Naikwade (19) both from Manchar after a chase,” Nilpatrewar said adding, “We have recovered both the vehicles, cellphones and cash from the trio. Their two more accomplices, however, fled from the spot.”
