Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav met BSP supremo Mayawati in Lucknow on Sunday, a day after she announced her party's alliance with Akhilesh Yadav's Samajwadi Party in Uttar Pradesh and said that the new alliance will ensure that BJP will not open its account in UP in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.
Jointly addressing mediapersons after the meeting, Tejashwi predicted that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will not be able to win even one of the 80 Lok Sabha seats in India's largest state.
The Leader of Opposition in Bihar Assembly told Mayawati in the meeting that his father and RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav wanted the SP-BSP alliance to take shape to stop the BJP from coming back to power. Now that the alliance between two arch-rivals has fructified, the BJP does not stand a chance to come back into power and will be whitewashed in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, Tejashwi said.

"There is atmosphere today where they want to scrap Baba Saheb's constitution and implement 'Nagpur laws'... People welcome the step taken by Mayawati and Akhilesh Yadav. BJP will be whitewashed in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. They will not win even one seat in UP. The SP-BSP alliance will win all seats," Tejashwi said.
Tejashwi is also scheduled to meet Akhilesh Yadav on Monday.
In a joint press conference on Saturday, Mayawati and Akhilesh announced that their respective parties have formed an alliance in Uttar Pradesh to contest the upcoming general elections. SP and the BSP will contest on 38 seats each, while they will not field their candidate against Congress president Rahul Gandhi in Amethi and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi in Rae Bareli. They have also kept two seats for the smaller parties.
Talking to media, Mayawati indicated that she will also be a part of RJD-led "Mahagathbandhan" in Bihar where the Lalu-led party has formed alliance with Congress and some smaller parties.
“Hum bhi inke saath hain (We are also with him),” the BSP chief said.
Tejashwi said he had come to Lucknow to wish her birthday in advance and also seek blessings from her.
"She is a mature leader and we hope to keep getting her guidance in future. That is all we want. We learn a lot from her, her statements. Who will leave an opportunity to speak to her?” he added.
