SURAT: Shops selling undhiyu and chikki in the city are under the scanner of health officials of Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC). Over 100 shops were raided in the city and samples taken for test by officials in the past three days.
An officer from food department said, “We have carried out checks in shops and taken samples of food items sold during Uttarayan. We are looking at sweets made of jaggery and undhiyu in which a lot of vegetables and oil are used. Hope they have used good quality oil, vegetables and other ingredients for the preparations of the food items.”
Unfortunately, report about the analysis of the samples will come many days after the festival.
