A desperate search is under way for an 11-year-old boy who vanished from his home in Sydney and barely speaks a word of English.

Anar Erdenechimeg, from Canterbury in western Sydney, was last seen at his home on Charles Street at 10am on Monday.

His distraught family say it's unlike him to run away and they are concerned for his welfare.

Anar is known to frequent Tasker Park and Canterbury Race Course. 

He is described as being of Asian appearance with a fair complexion, about 158cm tall and weighing 52kgs with short, black hair.

When last seen, Anar was wearing a blue and white striped polo shirt, blue shorts and black slippers. 

Anyone who sees Anar or believes they know his whereabouts is urged to contact Campsie or Burwood Police immediately.
