Indore: Describing 10 percent reservation bill meant to benefit economically weaker people from general category as historic, Lok Sabha Speaker and local MP Sumitra Mahajan on Sunday said it can’t be challenged in court. “Supreme Court has put cap on caste-based reservation above 50 percent. But the bill cleared by Parliament and later by President is not caste-based but income-based. So, it’s not breach of SC order,” said Mahajan while addressing a felicitation programme organised in Rajwada area.
Mahajan said it was due to will and determination of Prime Minister Narendra Modi that such a historic bill became law. She said poor people from general category got justice after 75 years of independence. “I became party to this historic moment because of people of Indore who sent me to Lok Sabha for eight times in a row. When I was sent for the eighth time, I became Speaker of Lok Sabha,” she said. More than 100 organisations felicitated Mahajan on the occasion.
