A 46-year-old former Goa Ranji cricket player Rajesh Ghodge collapsed on a cricket ground in Margao in south Goa on Sunday while playing a local tournament and died soon after.
Ghodge had scored 30 runs and was at the non-striker’s end when he collapsed, said Apoorv Bhembre, secretary of the Margao Cricket Club, the organisers of the tournament.
He was immediately rushed to the nearby ESIC Hospital and then to a private health facility in Margao, where he was declared dead, the official said.
Ghodge, who has played two Ranji matches for Goa and represented the State in several one-day matches in the 1990s, had no history of medical issues, Mr. Bhembre said.
