NEW DELHI: Reacting to the 1,200-page chargesheet filed by Delhi Police in the JNU sedition case, Delhi BJP chief Manoj Tiwari on Monday said that strong evidence has emerged against the accused — Kanhaiya Kumar, Syed Umar Khalid, Anirban Bhattacharya and seven Kashmiri students.

“Now that the chargesheet has been filed, the matter should move fast in court and they should be given strict punishment so that no one else can dare raise anti-India slogans and indulge in anti-national activities,” said Tiwari.

Tiwari said that under the Modi government, there is no place for anti-nationals in the country. “Those who are anti-nationals must be given strict punishment according to the law. Under PM Narendra Modi, nobody can save anti-nationals however hard they may try,” he added. However, he agreed that there was a delay in filing of the chargesheet by Delhi Police.

Meanwhile, AAP Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh hit out at PM Modi and said, “The police, who are experts in framing Modi’s opposition, took three years to file a chargesheet in a case as famous as this. The chargesheet has been filed just before the Lok Sabha polls to make their bosses happy. Now, Modiji will clap in his rallies and declare all the suspects anti-nationals.”

JNU sedition case: When sleuths turned college-goers

At least six young cops would wear kurta and jeans and carry a side-bag while venturing out to JNU every morning. This happened for weeks in 2016-2017 and the sleuths desperately tried to “make friends’ and gather intelligence. They took over 40 trips to J&K just to identify and locate the suspects. Sources said the first charge sheet could have been filed by mid-2018.
