Army mela, ex-servicemen rally organised in Jaisalmer
TNN | Jan 14, 2019, 23:05 ISTJaisalmer: In the build up to 71st Army Day, a ‘Know Your Army Mela’ was organized at Jaisalmer Military Station under the aegis of the Battle Axe Division. The event showcased the capabilities of Indian Army with display of tanks and armoured vehicles, long range artillery guns and small arms in an interactive manner. Many visitors including tourist and schoolchildren availed this opportunity to learn about the Indian Army and interact with officers and men at the Jaisalmer War Museum.
Equipment showcased in the event included modern battle tanks like T-90 and the indigenous Arjun Tank. The display also showcased various small arms used by Infantry units like Rocket Launchers, MMG, LMG and rifles. Several other surveillance equipment was also showcased in the exhibition which displays the future readiness of Army.
The Army also organised an ex-servicemen rally on Veterans Day at the Jaisalmer Military Station on January 14. Major General T K Aich, General Officer Commanding, Battle Axe Division was the chief guest for the event. Approximately 1,300 ex-servicemen, gallantry award winners, veer naris and 11 martyrs’ families had gathered from Jaisalmer and adjoining areas.
Army official source said, “The rally was organized as part of Army’s effort to reach out to its veterans and war widows and apprise them about Army’s focus on assisting them in all spheres of life post retirement.”
