It’s time to celebrate Tamil culture and heritage
Jan 15, 2019, 00:39 ISTCoimbatore: The three-day Tamizhar Thiruvizha, which will begin today at Codissia grounds here at 4pm on the occasion of Pongal, will celebrate the Tamil culture and heritage.
The festival will have traditional games, dances and a livestock show that will feature traditional breeds.
More than 10 traditional games including sadu-kudu (kabaddi), uriyadithal, vazhuku maram, ilavatta kal, silambam, malutham (wrestling), pambaram (top), mallar kambam, kaiuru illuthal (tug of war) and karala-suthudhal will be conducted.
The event will also see about 20 tradition dance forms including tharai-thapattai, salangai attam, mylattam, oyilattam, thavil, nathasvaram and many more.
An open cattle market, kaal-nadai santhai, will display native breeds of dogs, cows, bulls, roosters and horses.
A food court serving more than 50 traditional village dishes is sure to attract the foodies.
For children, the festival will have games, drawing competitions and oratorical competitions.
The event is being organized for the second consecutive year in the city.
