SURAT: A young woman and her fiancé have requested the guests at their wedding to vote for Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Their invitation cards for the marriage carry an appeal for vote together with detailed information on Rafale aircraft deal, which has caused a political storm in the country.

Yuvraj Pokharna, 28, an engineering graduate and MSC in mathematics, will be getting married to Sakshi Agarwal, also an engineer, on January 22 at Silvassa near here. Yuvraj told TOI, “We don’t belong to rich families. Therefore, our invitation cards are simple. Both of us are fans of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and so decided to appeal people invited at our wedding to help reelect him to the post. Their vote for him in the Lok Sabha elections would be our wedding gift. We have also printed some facts about Rafale aircraft deal to remove misconception about it. The information has been taken from government statement and notification and explained in the simplest possible way by us.”

This is second such incident in the city. Yuvraj says in the earlier incident, the invitation cards were printed by some people without the bridegroom’s knowledge and consent.

However, his is neither fake nor being done for publicity, he said, adding that he is not a member of any political party. Yuvraj says he is just a fan of the Prime Minister.

Yuvraj is son of Dr Prakash Pokharna, who runs coaching classes at Parel Point to prepare students for IIT|JEE. Sakshi comes from a business family. Both the bride and groom’s families are residents of the Diamond City.
