Party reacts to speech given by PM Narendra Modi at Ramlila Maidan on Jan 12

Reacting to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's speech at Ramlila Maidan on January 12, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) said that the PM was spreading lies ahed of the 2019 Lok Sabha election.

“The AAP is very clear... the coming Lok Sabha election will determine whether India will remain a democracy. With the Modi-led government approaching the end of its five year undemocratic, anti-federal and dictatorial tenure, the voters of India will decide whether such a regime was in their interest,” said the AAP in a statement.

It added that the BJP-led government has no concrete achievement to show the country and that the PM was relying on lies about his tenure to mislead the nation.

“The Modi-led government left no stone unturned in targeting its political opponents, using all its might through the illegal and blatant misuse of central agencies, and it destroyed all institutions of the country. It is a joke that the PM is talking about having been targeted by the previous central government when he was the Chief Minister of Gujarat and is trying to gain sympathy by claiming he was quizzed for nine hours,” said the AAP.

The AAP accused the PM of murdering democracy and strangulating the elected government in Delhi. It also highlighted how the office and home of the Delhi Chief Minister had been raided by the CBI and the Delhi Police.

‘Strangled elected govt’

“Residences of the Deputy Chief Minister and two Ministers were raided and they were questioned by central agencies... at least 20 MLAs were arrested on fake charges by politically manipulated Delhi Police and all cases which have been tried so far in courts have fallen flat,” said the AAP.

It added that more than 400 files of the Delhi government were illegally seized in a bid to implicate the Chief Minister and Council of Ministers in fake cases, and officers were instigated to remain on strike for four months to paralyse the elected government.

“Officers were directed to speak publicly against the elected government in violation of all laws and rules. Those officers who followed the Modi government’s illegal directions were rewarded and those who opposed it were punished. All important policies and welfare measures of the elected Delhi government were stalled through the illegal use of the Lieutenant-Governor office,” the AAP stated.

The party also attacked the PM on his claims of providing a corruption-free government. It said that the PM had been exposed by the way his Centre removed CBI director Alok Verma as he was allegedly going to start a probe into the Rafale deal.

The AAP added that it would be coming out with details of how the Modi government destroyed institutions and democracy during the last five years so that voters know the reality before they decide the future of the country in 2019.
