Tirupur: A self-proclaimed godwoman was attacked by her miffed lover on the outskirts of the city on Monday.

Police identified her as 39-year-old K Bhuvaneswari of Karaipudur. “She hailed from Kerala and had settled in the dollar city with her family years ago. After separating from her husband, she claimed to be a messenger of God. She was known in the locality as a fortune teller. She was in a relationship with Kumaraguru of Virudhunagar district, who was residing in the locality. Kumaraguru used to assist her in her work,” a police officer said.

“Kumaraguru wanted Bhuvaneswari to stay with him in his house. He stabbed her on her hip when she refused to do so. He escaped from the place after the incident,” the officer added.

Bhuvaneswari underwent treatment in a hospital. The injury is not serious, police said.

Based on her complaint, Palladam police have registered a case and have launched a hunt for Kumaraguru.
