The Coimbatore City Police have expanded its surveillance network by setting up 50 new CCTV cameras in the limits of the R.S. Puram police station with private partnership.
City Police Commissioner Sumit Sharan inaugurated the operation of the new surveillance cameras on Sunday in the presence of senior police officials and representatives of the public from R.S. Puram.
Speaking at the event, Mr. Sharan said that the police will set up similar surveillance camera networks in various parts of the city. Each network will have a mini control room from where the feeds can be monitored.
According to Mr. Sharan, the police have plans to set up 30 such mini controls rooms within the limits of Coimbatore City Police and expand the network of surveillance cameras for law and order management, and prevention and detection of crime.
Already the city police have a modern control room on the premises of Commissioner’s office, which is getting feeds from surveillance cameras fixed at important places. The new network is spread over four km radius. The mini control room with six monitors is functioning on the premises of Corporation Siddha Hospital.
Mr. Sharan urged more people to come forward in setting up surveillance camera networks like the one inaugurated at R.S. Puram.
