GVK Emergency Management and Research Institute (EMRI), which operates the 108 ambulance network in Tamil Nadu, is conducting preliminary inquiry into a case in which a 26-year-old woman submitted fake MBBS certificate, medical council registration and was working as a doctor at one of its Emergency Care Centres (ECC). The organisation had earlier lodged a complaint with the Teynampet police.
A senior officer of GVK-EMRI said Rachel Jenifer, a resident of Vellore, was posted as a doctor at the ECC in Injambakkam for the last 11 months. GVK EMRI operates four ECCs that serve as intermediary centres to stabilise patients. Each ECC has doctors and paramedical staff, and is headed by a MD-qualified physician.
“She had submitted a MBBS certificate from Kuppam Medical College and Tamil Nadu Medical Council registration. On verification, we found that the document and medical council registration number is fake. Our Human Resources department has lodged a complaint with the police, and being the employer, we are conducting a preliminary inquiry. She has to appear for the inquiry and provide an explanation,” he said.
They will also look into how the fake documents were accepted without being scrutinised.
He said that the issue surfaced after an ‘unknown source’ circulated the information to media. She had two curriculum vitae – one as nurse and the other as doctor - that were forwarded to GVK EMRI officials.
He added that they found that she was a qualified nurse and is registered with the Tamil Nadu Nurses and Midwives Council. “On one bio data, we found it mentioned that she has worked as a doctor in a private hospital in Chennai, and a nurse in a corporate hospital in the city,” he said.
