There are indications that e-tailing major Amazon is looking at TN as a potential destination to set up three of its data centres, that could attract an investment exceeding Rs 3,000 crore, multiple sources in the government revealed. An individual privy to the development told DTNext, “Our team is in touch with the Seattle-based group and initial discussions have been encouraging. Amazon is also considering other states, but we are at the forefront given the advantages that TN offers.”
It is learnt that the US-based retailer is scouting three land parcels 20 miles (32 km) apart. But this deal is expected to fructify post the two-day Global Investors’ Meet (GIM), beginning January 23. “After GIM, the deal is slated to go through, once the conditions are met. The company is not interested in setting base in interior regions of the state, with ample land availability,” the source added.
Meanwhile, TCS, as part of its expansion strategy, is set to sign an MoU with TN that will usher in a big ticket investment of over Rs 1,000 crore, during the GIM. “Their expanded campus on 20 acres will be in Siruseri, where it plans to invest upwards of Rs 1,000 crore and generate employment for 10,000 people,” said a source.
