Goa cement factory blast: death due to negligence

The Pernem police in north Goa on Sunday added Section 304(A) (causing death by negligence) to the case against owners of a cement factory and its management after the death of a critically injured worker on Sunday.

Ajit Sonba Nake (24), a worker from Ratnagiri-Kolhapur succumbed to injuries at the State-run Goa Medical College Hospital on Sunday. Two other workers of a total of nine, who were injured in a blast at the factory on Saturday in Tuem industrial estate in Pernem, are still in critical condition, the police said. They are under observation at the GMC hospital.

After a boiler blast in the cement factory on Saturday afternoon, the local police booked Rajendra Joshi and management of the factory shed on Saturday and charged them with Sections 337 (causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others) and 338 (negligently endangering life).
