KOCHI: Chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan said the government aims at making Kerala one of the most important IT destinations in the world.
While inaugurating the Integrated Startup Complex and Maker Village at Kalamassery on Sunday, Vijayan said the government would provide all support, including physical and social infrastructure, for it.

Now, 3.67 lakh sq ft ‘Station F’ in Paris is the world’s largest incubation centre, the chief minister said. Kerala IT Innovation Zone, operating from seven buildings on a campus sprawling across 13 acres at Kalamassery, could be developed into 5 lakh sq ft within a few years. Then, the incubation centre at the innovation zone would be the world’s largest one, he said.

The 1,80,000 sq ft innovation zone at Kalamassery has become the largest incubation centre in south Asia, the chief minister said. Now, around 100 startups are functioning from the zone.

Maker Village, which is to promote electronic hardware; biomedical research innovation centre (BRIC) for developing drugs and diagnostic facilities to cater to the needs of treating cancer; and Bionest, a startup for biotechnology, have also been launched at the zone on Sunday.

Health minister K K Shailaja inaugurated BRIC. The centre would function in association with Cochin Cancer Research Centre. The BRIC would be operating from the 7,500 sq ft space at the innovation zone.
