FALL RIVER -- Former mayor Will Flanagan, the subject of Fall River's first recall in 2014, announced Monday that he would not run in the city's current recall election.

"I will not be a candidate in the March Mayoral Recall Election," Flanagan said in a post on social media.

Flanagan was serving his third term as mayor when he faced the city's first recall election. He was recalled, and then lost the popular vote to Sam Sutter.

Sutter served the remainder of that term, then was defeated by then-City Councilor Jasiel Correia. Correia is now facing a recall election of his own.
