DARTMOUTH — Durfee High graduate Shaelyn Carreiro, a freshman forward at UMass Dartmouth, has been named the Little East Conference women's basketball Rookie of the Week for her performances last week.

In three games, the 5-foot-11 Carreiro averaged 11.3 points and 3.3 rebounds per game while shooting 68 percent (15 for 22) from the field. In the process, she scored a career single-game high 18 on 9-for-10 shooting in a 103-66 rout of Western Connecticut at UMD. The Corsairs (13-3, 6-1) also defeated Castleton 66-45 and Rhode Island College 59-58, both on the road

Carreiro has appeared in all 16 contests and is averaging 8.2 points and 3.9 rebounds per game while shooting 51 percent (51-101) from the field. UMD hosts eastern Connecticut on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.
