Jharkhand cabinet nod to Chaibasa, Koderma medical colleges

Jharkhand chief minister Raghubar Das attending the cabinet meetingRANCHI: The Jharkhand cabinet on Sunday approved a proposal of the state department of health, medical education and family welfare for upgrading Chaibasa and Koderma district hospitals into 300-bed medical college hospitals under a sponsored scheme of the Union government.
The 11-member ministerial council, which met at Biodiversity Park in Lalkhatanga village under Namkum block of Ranchi district in the afternoon, also sanctioned Rs 642.76 crore for the project.
Briefing mediapersons after the meeting, Sukhdev Singh, the additional chief secretary of the state department of planning cum finance, said the cost for these projects will be borne by the Center and state on a 60:40 ratio. “The Union government will disburse approximately Rs 300 crore while the rest will be borne by the state,” Singh added.
The foundations for proposed Koderma and Chaibasa medical college hospitals were laid by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union minister for health and family welfare JP Nadda on September 23 last year when the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana was launched nationwide from Ranchi.
Sunday’s meeting, which was the second of 2019 for Das cabinet, ran for 40 minutes in the conference room of the 542-acre park, roughly 18 kilometers from the state capital.
In another decision, the ministerial council okayed a proposal to reduce the servings of eggs in mid-day meals, served to students of students of primary and middle standards of state government run schools, to twice a week from three. The cabinet also okayed the proposal to purchase eggs at Rs 6 apiece in place of Rs 4. At present, Rs 163.12 crore is spent annually to purchase eggs for the mid-day meal scheme. The cabinet also approved to release Rs 557.13 crore to Bihar government for settling pension liabilities.
The cabinet okayed an urban drinking water supply project in Koderma, to be set up at a net cost of Rs 60.12 crore. The ministerial council also leased a three-acre plot in Rangmatia village in Musabani in East Singbhum to the Uranium Corporation of India Limited for the latter’s proposed recovery plant and transferred 3.8-acre land in Bhusar and Jamra villages in Chandwa block of Latehar to the Indian Railways for Tori-Mahuamilan railway track.
