NEW DELHI: Almost three years ago, Delhi Police began investigations into the controversial allegations of sedition levied against some Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) students. On Sunday, the special cell wound up the probe, took necessary sanctions from the Delhi Police commissioner and the prosecution and is now all set to file the chargesheet in the case against 10 people, including former JNU Students Union president Kanhaiya Kumar, Syed Umar Khalid and Anirban Bhattacharya.
As first reported by TOI on September 12, 2018, the others named in the chargesheet are Kashmiri residents, Aquib Hussain, Mujeeb Hussain, Muneeb Hussain, Umar Gul, Rayees Rasool, Basharat Ali and Khalid Bashir Bhat.
The chargesheet is likely to be filed in Patiala House court on Monday.
According to the investigation, Kanhaiya led the protesters on the evening of February 9 . The police have found that the formalities required to obtain permission for conducting any event at JNU were not completed. The group was stopped and informed that they did not have permission to proceed.
“To this, Kanhaiya came forward, had an argument with the security personnel and then led the mob while raising slogans,” the chargesheet says.
