VADODARA: Detection of crime branch (DCB) sleuths seized Indian Made Foreign Liquor worth over Rs 7 lakh from the ravines of Vishwamitri River near Talsat in the wee hours of Saturday.
Police said that they had received a tip-off that a bootlegger identified as Ajay Bhaliya had hid liquor stock in the bushes behind an under-construction site in Talsat on the banks of Vishwamitri River. When cops raided the places, they found boxes containing liquor worth over Rs 7 lakh. Police said that there were 3,618 bottles and cans of different brands of liquor and beer.
“On checking the stock, we found that it was manufactured in Maharasthra, Karnataka, Goa, Daman, Punjab and Himachal Pradesh and was meant for sale in respective states,” said a police official adding that there could be a possibility that many more bootleggers besides Bhaliya could be involved.
Cops believe that the accused would have ordered the liquor stock for the upcoming Uttarayan festival. Police are in search of Bhaliya as his arrest can only reveal about the source of the liquor and to whom he was planning to sell it.
The crime branch sleuths registered a case under Prohibition Act against Bhaliya at Manjalpur police station.
