Ever tried a hot air balloon ride? If not, rush to Pollachi

Coimbatore: The fifth Tamil Nadu International Balloon Festival began in Pollachi on Sunday with a great deal of fanfare. The three-day event, held in association with the Tamil Nadu department of tourism, offers hot air balloon rides for the public.

The festival features 10 hot air balloons from eight countries. A communication from the organizers said this year’s attraction would be balloons in the shape of animals and ice creams. A white cat-shaped balloon from Germany, an ice cream-shaped balloon from Belgium, and Angry Birds-shaped balloons from the USA would be part of the festival this year.


The inaugural event on Sunday featured a musical performance by singer and actor Andrea Jeremiah and band. Food pop ups and kids carnival are the other attractions of the event, which got under way on Sakthi Mills ground, Pollachi. Balloon flights would start from 6am, while tethered rides would start at 4.30pm, the release said.
