The festival of was celebrated in Punjab, Haryana, and with traditional fervour and gaiety on Sunday.

Bonfires, an important part of the festivities, were lit as families danced to the tunes of famous festival songs like 'Sundar mundriye ho'.

During the day, children and youngsters held kite-flying competitions at many places including Ludhiana, Mohali, and The sky was dotted with multi-coloured kites like 'Tukkal', 'Chhaj', 'Pari' of different sizes and shapes carrying 'Happy Lohri' and 'Happy New Year' messages.

This time, the festival was also dedicated to the girl child at several places in by organising 'Dhiyan Di Lohri' to make people aware of the importance of girls.
