CHANDIGARH: Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) is all set to announce the names of the candidates for the posts of mayor, senior deputy mayor and deputy mayor on Monday, as BJP’s national vice president and MP Prabhat Jha on Sunday spoke to each municipal councillor and senior leader to take their opinion on the list of names. Jha will now discuss the names of all the probables with BJP’s national chief Amit Shah to make the final announcement on Monday.
“I spoke to each municipal councillor of BJP and also with the members of the city BJP’s core committee. Everyone has agreed to go by the decision of the party’s central leadership,” Jha told TOI.
Jha, who held meetings with the municipal councillors and BJP’s leaders at their city office in Sector 33 on Sunday morning, left on the same day in the evening for New Delhi. Significantly, party’s city chief Sanjay Tandon also left for New Delhi on Sunday.
“Since the role of city president and MP is most crucial in the mayoral polls, especially in a time when parliamentary election is nearing, the central leadership has somehow managed to bring both of them together this time unlike the previous times to ascertain unanimity,” sources revealed.
Sources further said since both Sanjay Tandon and Kirron Kher are in the race to get the ticket for parliamentary elections, none of them want any controversy during the selection of candidates.
