Mercedes knocks down two; driver arrested

NEW DELHI: Two youths riding back home from Murthal were injured after their motorcycle was rammed by a speeding Mercedes near Punjabi Bagh on Saturday night. Police said that the car was tracked down on Sunday, and the driver was arrested from his home.
The incident was reported around 2am. Police said that Ravindra and Rohit work at a fast food chain in Gurgaon and had gone to Murthal along with two other colleagues, Vinod and Vicky, for a late dinner. Ravindra was riding pillion on Rohit’s bike.
Vicky and Vinod told the police that when they had reached Punjabi Bagh cremation ground at the mouth of the flyover, the Mercedes drove zigzag and hit Rohit’s bike. The two flew off and landed a few metres ahead. The driver of the car stopped to check on them before fleeing.
Vicky and Vinod rushed the victims to a hospital with the help of passersby and informed the police.
A case under causing hurt due to negligence and negligent driving was registered. During the probe, cops found the number plate of the car at the spot and tracked down the owner Manjeet, a resident of the area. Manjeet’s driver Gagan Singh was driving the car at the time of the incident and was arrested.
Police said that both Rohit and Ravindra are under observation at a private hospital but are in stable condition.
