Mild tension prevailed outside Kamatipura police station here on Sunday when a group of persons staged a dharna demanding justice for a gangrape survivor. They alleged that police recorded the statement of an accused as a witness to suppress the case.
Charminar ACP B. Anjaiah said a 16-year-old girl approached police on December 24 and alleged rape by her cousin and two others for the last few years. A case was registered and she was sent to Bharosa centre for counselling.
Her cousin, Mahesh Raj, and his friends, Abhijeet and Vyas, accused in the case were arrested and are lodged at Chanchalguda prison. On Sunday, the girl told police that nine more people had sexually assaulted her. Another statement has been recorded and a probe is on.
