'It's like watching paint dry!' The Today show's new line-up is labelled 'boring', 'humourless' and 'awkward' as Brooke Boney, Tom Steinfort, and Tony Jones make their debut

Channel Nine debuted its new-look Today show on Monday, and it didn't take long for viewers to slam the refresh as 'boring', 'awkward' and 'humourless'.

Georgie Gardner, 48, and Deborah Knight, 46, have welcomed Tom Steinfort, 35, Brooke Boney, 31, and Tony Jones, 57, to the panel - but not everybody is impressed.

Fans flocked to the Today show's official Facebook page to criticise everything from their lack of chemistry to the on-screen presentation.

'This is like watching paint dry! A bunch of bores,' one person wrote.

'The gap between each person isn't even and the desk is too small,' another viewer wrote.

'Sorry, does not look right, very awkward, didn't think it could get any worse but it has,' read a similar comment.

'Boring [too] many people, Rest in peace, Nine.'

In a statement to Daily Mail Australia, a Channel Nine spokesperson said there has been 'a positive response overall'.

'There has been a positive response overall from viewers. We are excited to broadcast for the next two weeks from the Australian Open,' the statement read.

Some viewers applauded the new panel, with one describing it as a 'breath of fresh air'.

'About time...breath of fresh air, well and truely overdue for a change!!!', they wrote.

Another viewer wrote, 'I like the new look and the new team'.

Earlier this month, Channel Nine's director of news and current affairs Darren Wick said that Deborah and Georgie are great for the show.

'Georgie has established herself as one of the most respected presenters on television,' he told News.com.au.

Darren described Deborah as being 'hands-down one of the best interviewers in the country', as well as 'an incredibly hard worker'.

Last month, Karl Stefanovic was fired from the Today show after 14 years, alongside his sister-in-law Sylvia Jeffreys and sports presenter Tim Gilbert.

Richard Wilkins was also replaced by former Triple J newsreader Brooke.
