TRICHY: NIT Trichy director Mini Shaji Thomas received the best teacher award for the year 2019 from the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Kerala Section on Sunday. She was presented the award at a function held in Kozhikode.
Chairman of the awards committee Satish Babu recognised her as an outstanding teacher who has promoted values-based education that combines academic excellence with compassion and service to humanity.
Infosys co-founder Kris Gopalakrishnan was present on the occasion.
Excited to receive an award for teaching, Thomas said that she had chosen teaching profession out of love for imparting knowledge to others although she had other opportunities.
Saying that good quality teachers were need of the hour for all educational Institutions, she appealed to young generation to aspire to be teachers.
Recently, during the floods that ravaged large parts of Kerala and caused massive power shutdown, Thomas responded to a call from the IEEE Kerala Section by providing 500 low cost electric distribution boards as minimum power outlet, with the help of NIT Trichy students and faculty.
