Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu on Saturday said he would develop a parallel city on the Ibrahimpatnam side of the Krishna on par with Amaravati if people gave their land under the pooling scheme instead of creating a situation where the government might be forced to acquire them in the normal time-taking process.
Laying foundation for the ‘Kuchipudi iconic bridge’ across the river which cuts the distance from the Hyderabad and the Jagdalpur national highways to Amaravati by 40 km and a water treatment plant for Amaravati, both undertaken by the Amaravati Development Corporation (ADC) here, Mr. Naidu said he was aware of the feeling that development was mostly concentrated on the other (Guntur district) side of the river and willing to transform these parts in the Krishna district perceived to be neglected, into the best of cities and towns by leveraging on their strengths.
Tourist destination
For instance, the iconic bridge, which would be constructed by the L&T at approximately ₹1,400 crore, was poised to shape up Pavitrasangamam area into a tourist destination, thereby give a fillip to the local economy. He said a series of such bridges would come up on the river starting with the one at the ferry, which attracted national attention by being the point of confluence of the Krishna and the Godavari.
Construction of the Kuchipudi iconic bridge was proposed to be completed in 15 to 18 months against two years mooted by the L&T.
The CM said the water treatment plant with 190 MLD capacity to be set up by the NCC Limited at roughly ₹745 crore for meeting the requirement of the capital city Amaravati would be ready in 12 months. He said a temple of Lord Venkateswara would be built in Amaravati with the cooperation of the TTD.
Ministers P. Narayana, Devineni Umamaheswara Rao, MPs Kesineni Srinivas and Galla Jayadev, ZP chairperson Gadde Anuradha, principal secretary (infrastructure and investment) Ajay Jain and ADC chairperson D. Lakshmi Parthasarathy were among those present.
