Feroze Khan behind bars, now other MD racketeers on police radar

NAGPUR: Crime branch’s special cell, dealing with Narcotics drugs and psychotropic substances (NDPS) Act, has already busted one of the most notorious rackets of mephedrone, popularly known as MD, involving Feroze Khan alias Abu and his close aides Javed Khan and Arshad Ahmed. Another major racket, it’s reliably learnt, led by alleged peddler, identified as ‘Mujhaheed’, and another big fish ‘Sajid’ is yet to be busted.

The city-based racketeers, involved in dealing of MD, had come under scanner in December last year when the special cell had nabbed couriers Amir Khan and Mohd Waqar for possessing around 70gm of the narcotics from a place near Ganeshpeth’s inter-district bus stand. In the past too, the crime branch had conducted couple of raids against MD, and seized drug worth Rs3,500 per grams, but no substantial quantity was recovered.

The action of the special cell, led by PI RD Nikam and PSI Swapnil Wagh under supervision of DCP (crime) Sambhaji Kadam, took a concrete turn when Abu’s network was busted earlier this year. Abu, Javed and their network was operating from Bada Tajbagh. The latest action is the first case of NDPS against Abu who also has 20 offences against him in the past.

PI Nikam said police are trying to find out more about the links and networks of Abu and also his property. “We are tightening our noose around Abu and his gang,” said Nikam.

Sources from east Nagpur said that another peddler in the city, Mujhaheed, too has been dealing in MD for quite some time now. According to a reliable source, Amir was supplying MD to Mujhaheed who too was part of the Abu gang before distancing himself from the gangster. It’s learnt, Mujhaheed had a showdown with Abu for having a tiff with the gangster’s close aide.

Sources also said Mujhaheed, who was once Abu’s bodyguard, increased his clout after defecting from the gangster’s group. After managing to set up a citywide network, Mujhaheed had started earning substantially.

Apart from Mujhaheed, another major MD racket of Sajid too is now under police scanner. Sajid, now based in Mumbai, also has good network in the city. Mujhaheed and Sajid smuggle substantial amount of MD into the city through trains with the help of Amir and Waqar, as customers for the narcotics are fast growing in the city.
