HYDERABAD: Student organisations constituted a city-wing of the Young India National Coordination Committee (YINCC) on Saturday to launch a massive campaign for education and employment ahead of the Lok Sabha elections.
Motive of the joint platform launched by various student organisations is to install the student-youth agendas at the heart of national politics. The YINCC is supported by the Maulana Azad National Urdu University students union, Telangana wing of All India Students Federation, Progressive Dalit Students Union, University of Hyderabad wing of All India Students Association among others.
The YINCC has plans to organise a massive rally on February 7 on par with the ‘Majdoor Kisan Sangharsh Rally’. “The idea came from farmers march and we used their formula to build greater unity among youth on question of jobs and education. Our demand is simple -- give us job or Rs 18,000 unemployment allowance. Almost 26,000 youth have committed suicides in last three years, immediately all outstanding education loans on students should be waived unconditional,” said N Balaji, president of Jawaharlal Nehru University students union.
The YINCC also released a charter of demands for political parties ahead of the Lok Sabha elections. The demands vary from filling up of vacant government posts to increment in number of jobs, enhancement of budget allocated for education, putting an end to gender discriminatory rules and mandating reservations.
“The youth charter has to be subscribed by everyone who wants young India's vote. Young India’s march on 7th will be a slap on Modi government’s face for fooling the youth after taking their votes. Neither did it ensure promised two crore jobs nor provided quality education,” said Balaji.
Students have also sought academic freedom in campuses and end to seat-cutting, closure of courses, fee hike in higher educational institutions across the country.
