Three run over by train at Jite railway station in Raigad

NAVI MUMBAI: Three contractual workers while crossing the railway tracks were run over by Tejas Express (Karmali to Mumbai) near Jite railway station in Pen taluka, Raigad, while working on the tracks around 9.30 pm on Sunday. The trio have not been identified yet.
The Dadar Sagari police station police inspector Shailesh Gaikwad said, "The three workers are into track laying work. They were crossing the track while the Mumbai bound Tejas express run over them. All three had sustained head injuries and died on the spot.”
Shailesh Gaikwad added, “The workers are from Madhya Pradesh and were staying nearby. Two of them fell on side of the track after being hit by the train while the third fell on the other side. The bodies are being taken for post mortem. Their identities are being traced."
The Central Railway Jite railway station deputy station master Rajiv Ranjan confirmed that three persons have been died after being run over by a train.
Rescue worker Kalpesh Thakur said, “The body of the workers are lying on the track. The name of victims are difficult to found out as they do not have identity cards.”
A Panvel railway station official said, “The CR general manager’s visit is scheduled in the next two weeks. Hence the works are being done at Panvel and other railway stations. However, it is surprising how workers were working at night on the tracks."
