Tech Help: Tuesdays from 2:30 - 3:30: Learn how to use your fancy new devices or get tips on an old one. Bring your questions, your devices and your passwords and learn how to get the most out of the technology in your life. Free and open to the public. Jan. 17 from 5:30-7:30 - Teen Oreo Challenge.  All teens in grades 6-12 are invited to join us for our first ever Oreo challenge. Bring your friends and your taste buds, and we will provide the Oreos. Teens must try to name all the flavors. Registration required at portsmouthlibrary.org.

Jan. 29 from 6:30-7:30 - YA Fiction Book Club.This month's selection is "What I Leave Behind" by Alison McGhee. Readers of any age that have read the book are welcome to join in the discussion; refreshments will be served. No registration required.

    SOMERSET   Somerset Public Library, 1464 County St., Somerset; Phone: 508-646-2829.   Adult programs: On Monday, Jan. 14 at 6:30 p.m., the new Non-Fiction Book Club has their firstscheduled meeting. The group will discuss Hillbilly Elegy by J. D. Vance and decide next month’s selection. The Non-Fiction Book Club meets on the second Monday of every month,and the library will help members access copies of current or future books. No book clubexperience is necessary, and any adult or teen fourteen or older interested in reading about and discussing current events, investigative journalism, history, biography, science, and technology is encouraged is join. Also, on Monday, Jan. 28 at 6 p.m., Janet Rausch will lead a workshop on paper crafting and show participants how to use a variety of materials to create cards, tags, labels, bookmarks and more. Ms. Rausch will lead this workshop once a month, on the fourth Monday of the month, through April. Registration is required for this workshop as well, contact the library to secure your spot for one or more sessions in this ongoing class.

Tuesday, Jan. 15, 4 to 5 p.m., The Write Club: For creative writers ages 8-12.  Join our group as we write stories, learn new words, do word puzzles and share what we are reading, The Write club is an informal and casual writing group for young aspiring writers. Kids meet and work on fun writing exercises, discuss what they’re writing (and reading), and be inspired to make writing a daily habit.

Thursday Jan. 17, noon to 2 p.m. Swansea Knitters: January is Arts and Crafts Month at the Swansea Free Public Library.  The Swansea knitters meet each Thursday from 12-2 to work on projects.  Whether you are new to knitting or working on your own projects, join us for friendship, fun and a fantastic good time in the Reference Room.  Registration is not required.

Friday Jan. 18, noon to 2 p.m. Brown Bag Book Club: The Brown Bag Book Club meets the 3rd Friday of the month from 12-1P.  Eat, read and talk with this small reading circle. New members are welcome.

Each week explore a fun and interesting topic and share stories, sing songs, play games and create a piece of art.  Limit: 18 preschoolers per session. Registration is not required. Seats will be distributed on a first-come basis.

Teeny Tiny Tales, Children ages 1 -2 years, Wednesdays, Jan. 16th, 23rd and 30th.  Two Sessions: 10:15 - 11 a.m. and  11:15 – 12 p.m. Join Mr. Monkey and Miss Meg for stories and songs during this literacy based playgroup for young patrons. The morning will begin with a short book and group activity, followed by time to play with our new friends.  Limit: 18 toddlers per session. Registration is not required. Seats will be distributed on a first-come basis.

Babies & Books:  Babies 1 week - 12 months, Thursdays, Jan. 17th and 24th, 10 – 10:30 a.m. Stories and activities have been chosen for non-walking infants.

A Lap- Sit Story Program for little tots under three who love books will begin on Wednesday, Jan. 23 at 10 a.m. The program will consist of music, finger-plays, a brief story, puppets, rhythm instruments, and nursery rhymes. This program is suitable for a caregiver and child to participate together. Following the story period, toys are provided for children to stay and play! Registration is necessary for this program.
