UP: Six killed, 40 injured in road mishap in Fatehpur

KANPUR: Six persons including a mother-daughter duo were killed and around 40 other people sustained serious injuries in a road accident on Kanpur-Allahabad highway on Sunday. The incident occurred near Mohar village under the limits of Kalyanpur police station in Fatehpur district when one of the tyres of a gravel-laden truck punctured and it skidded off the road divider and plunged on to the wrong side, colliding head-on against an SRTC Fatehpur depot bus.
Following the accident, a pile-up kind of situation occurred when a tourist jeep carrying devotees to Kumbh Mela in Allahabad also crashed into the mangled remains of the bus and truck.
The injured with critical injuries were undergoing medical treatment at Community Health Centres in Bindki and Gopalganj, besides at the district hospital in Fatehpur while a few injured persons were discharged after first aid.
"Of the six deceased, mother-daughter duo were identified as Shikha Tripathi (27), wife of Vimlesh Tripathi, their five-year-old daughter Ashi, of Maswani locality of the district. The identity of four others could not be ascertained yet," said superintendent of police Fatehpur Rahul Raj.
"The mishap occurred around 11 am when the speeding truck collided-head on against an SRTC bus of Fatehpur depot when one of its tyres got punctured and it crossed the road divider and plunged on to the wrong side," said an official. "Bodies of the deceased have been shifted to mortuary and further investigations are on," he added.
