BENGALURU: Two managers of a multinational company were arrested after they allegedly failed to return their office laptops, indulged in data theft and diverted crores of rupees and business to their own entity.
Prathap (32) and Karthik (35), were arrested after Bramhananda YP, the manager (administration) of IonIdea Enteprise Solutions Pvt Ltd, filed a complaint with Mahadevapura police on January 10.
DCP (Whitefield) Abdul Ahad said the duo allegedly diverted Rs 2 crore due to their employer to their own company. IonIdea is into developing business software. Prathap worked as a senior manager with the company while Karthik was an operations manager.
According to the police, Prathap and Karthik joined the company in 2012 and 2013 respectively, did well in their work and were promoted. The duo gained the trust of company higherups, enabling them to access a few crucial operations of the company.
They hatched a plot in 2017 to make some quick bucks and float their own firm. They started stealing data, technology and client database of the company and even started a firm, Captive Med Solutions.
However, they continued to work at IonIdea and were sent abroad including to the US to meet clients. The duo, however, continued to promote their company and diverted money due to IonIdea to Captive Med Solutions from the clients. In November 2018, the duo abruptly stopped coming to work. They neither submitted resignation nor they returned their laptops.
When the company checked its operations, it found that its intellectual property had been violated and money and business due from clients have been diverted. The company’s network administrator was able to track Karthik’s office laptop and found all the details in it.
Police said Karthik, hailing from Tamil Nadu, is a BBA graduate whereas Prathap is a BBM graduate. Both lived in Horamavu.
“We are probing the company’s allegation that it has incurred Rs 10 crore business loss because of the duo,” said police.
