HYDERABAD: Days after a doctor, Y Chandrakanth Reddy, lodged a police complaint against a private hospital for registration fraud, the case has got murkier with the doctor now alleging that he has been receiving threat-calls from district health officials.
Speaking to STOI on Saturday, Dr Reddy said that the deputy district medical health officer (DMHO) of Ranga Reddy district abused him for directly approaching the police. “Dr Chandu Naik abused me for approaching the police and threatened that he will see that my registration is cancelled. I recorded the entire conversation that has now been submitted to the commissioner of family welfare. He even issued a new licence to the hospital in January, dated April 2018. The hospital is still running with one unqualified nurse and without a doctor. There is an attempt to suppress the entire issue,” he alleged.
Following Dr Reddy’s accusations, the Telangana Junior Doctors Association (TJUDA) has demanded that a high-level inquiry committee be formed, headed by Director of Public Health and comprising a DSP rank police officer, and that the DMHO be immediately suspended. TJUDA has also threatened to go on an indefinite strike over the issue.
TJUDA president Dr PS Vijayender said on the issue, “we will fight for Dr Chandrakanth and go on an indefinite strike if health authorities fail to punish the culprits. Strict action should be taken against such fraudulent hospitals. They are putting lives of innocent citizens at risk.”
